Description

  • According to ΕΝ 1504-9, RC 440 concrete repair mortar class R4, is suitable for:
    • repairs and concrete restoration (Principle 3, Method 3.1 of ΕΝ 1504-9) indoors and outdoors such as: industrial floors with heavy traffic, showrooms, shopping malls, offices, etc.
    • concrete repair and reprofiling. Increasing the bearing capacity of the concrete structure by adding mortar. (Principle 4, Method 4.4 of ΕΝ 1504-9)
    • preserving or restoring the passivity of the concrete (Principle 7, Method 7.1 & 7.2 of ΕΝ 1504-9), increasing cover with additional mortar or replacing contaminated or carbonated concrete
    • levelling ceilings, horizontal or/and vertical surfaces in a thickness of 5 – 30 mm in one single layer
    • spot restorations up to 50 mm – filling gaps and minor defects
    • substrate levelling prior to the application of PLANOCOLOR decorative coatings
  • Form: Powder
  • POT life: 45 - 60 minutes
  • Walkability: after 3 - 4 hours
  • Application temperature: from +5°C up to +35°C

Substrate preparation:

Surfaces should be clean of dust, dirt, oil, grease, rust and generally elements that will adversely affect adhesion. Reinforcing rods should be rust-free, mechanical or sandblasting removal or using RUST CONVERTER. In addition, they should be protected with two coats of corrosion inhibitor such as NOVAFER. Approximately 2 hours before applying the RC 440, wet the substrate with water until saturated and keep the surface fresh. Before applying the RC 440, remove excess water using air or sponge. For more information please refer to the corresponding Product Data Sheets.

Preparation of the mix:

Mix the content of 25 kg paper bag containing RC 440 with 4.0 – 4.5 liters of clean and fresh water by means of appropriate electrical stirrer at low speed for 3 minutes, until a uniform mortar free of lumps is obtained. For small quantities mixing can be performed also by hand.

Application:

The mixture is applied by means of a flat trowel to the properly prepared surface. First, apply a thin layer all over the surface, applying sufficient pressure to cover the pores and holes of the substrate. Then, apply the product to the required thickness with pressure and compact well the product on the surface. The maximum application thickness is 30 mm per layer. When higher thickness is required, apply subsequent coats when the preceding layer starts to harden.
The mortar should be applied within 1 hour from the start of the mixing under normal conditions. After this period, do not try to mix again with water. Low temperatures extend the life of the mortar while high temperatures drastically reduce workability. Protect the fresh mortar from rapid drying by suitable means. For smoothing surfaces prior to the application of PLANOCOLOR MICROCEMENT or PLANOCOLOR GRANULATES coatings it is recommended waiting
3-10 days depending on the application thickness. For applications of humidity
stable coverings such as ceramic tiles usually 24 - 48 hours is enough.

Recommendations:

  • Apply only upon solid and well-prepared rough substrate
  • Avoid applications during direct sunlight exposure and/or strong wind and rain
  • Do not add water or additives once the mix starts to set
  • Do not apply upon existing expansion or movement joints of the substrate
  • Do not apply upon substrates subjected to rising humidity
  • Do not apply upon anhydrite-based substrates, metal surfaces or resilient
    substrates
  • Do not add cement, gypsum, lime or other materials that might affect the
    properties of the mortar
  • Do not exceed 30 mm in thickness per layer and 15 mm in case of applications on ceilings
  • Do not apply when temperature of the substrate and environment is lower than +5°C and higher than +35°C
  • Application must be done by professional applicator

Cleaning:

Tools, buckets, machinery, etc. can be cleaned with fresh and clean water as long as RC 440 mix is still fresh. After hardening occurs, cleaning can take place by mechanical means.
